Hi Everyone,

Our first Gunalda ‘B’ show which was held on Sunday, 20th April, was a great success with a record number of horses & competitors, it was great to see everyone out and about enjoying their horses again. Many thanks to our Judge, Jo Seery, Krystal Calvert for doing an excellent job of stewarding, Greg Davis for announcing and all the other helpers too numerous to list. We need helpers at all our shows, if you can spare some time to help that would be very much appreciated. Don't forget that your committee members are horse owners too and like to get out and show as well.

From one of your Clinic Co ordinaters

I have asked Jo to give a bit of background about herself, nothing too personal but how she got to be where she is. As we all go to clinics/ schools call them what you want, I like to know something about the trainer. Did they come from English background? Were they self taught? Do they particularly like any American or overseas trainers? Do they like or appreciate any other disciplines other than Western?

There are so many videos, books & packages of quick learn quick pay to learn about horses all facets of horses & horsemanship. Everyone is different & every horse is different.

The next clinic is conducted by Steve Thake, so then it’s his turn to jot out a few lines.

Till then cya Anne

Jo Seery

Jo started in horses when she was about 10 years old, in the UK. As most children do she started in pony club, she enjoyed show jumping. Cross country as well as sporting. A little bit of dressage but not in competition.

Jo has been in Australia since 1988. At this time she was doing a bit of stock horsework as she was mustering on her property near Proston. There was a season or two of hacking…then she started to look at western going along to the South Burnett Western Performance Club. Jo was enjoying the western riding, reining and trail; constantly gathering information by participating in clinics bettering herself and her horse. Next step was a trip to the State Titles at Emerald and she has never looked back.

After meeting John (Jo’s other half) in 1996, her interests & passions for the western industry just continued to accelerate. In 2001 Jo started to help other people with their horses at their request & so it has blossomed from there.

Jo expresses her main interest is Trail but looking at the broader picture she says she is interested in all  the  Western Performance as one is vital to the other i.e. the better going horse you have the more successful you’ll be in whichever class you like. She has a love of Western riding and aims to have a horse to compete in that event as well.

I thank Jo for giving me this information about herself. She has an endless amount of energy & is willing to give to others who want to learn.

Come to Jo’s clinic see how she prepares her horse for Trail events. Learn how to get suppleness in your horses from basic exercises, negotiate obstacles, how do I remember that trail pattern & get that polish that sets you apart from other competitors.
